Employer super obligations are changing from 1 July 2013

From 1 July 2013:

  • You need to increase the compulsory super payments you make on behalf of all your eligible employees to 9.25%. This is the first of several increases over the next seven years
  • Make super guarantee contributions for employees who are 70 years old or over

Depreciation changes for Small Businesses from 01/07/2012

Small Businesses are now able to claim an immediate deduction for assets costing less than $6,500 (excluding GST). The previous limit was $1,000.

Also, if you purchase a motor vehicle costing more than $6,500 you will be able to claim a $5,000 immediate deduction plus 15% depreciation in year 1, then 30% in year 2 onwards.
